In Guardians of the Galaxy, vol. 2, The Guardians (Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, and Bradley Cooper as Rocket) must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Going into the movie, all we know is that his dad is “from the stars,” but there’s more than just the glowing celestial orb, craft excluded.

The very first time I saw the movie, one scene struck me and it’s kind of pivotal…and references keep coming up to it. (spoiler after the image, so don’t keep reading if you don’t want to see spoilers).

Peter shares a moment with his father, Ego, harnessing the light. What he does with it is surprising and yet not, because he forms it into a ball and plays catch with his dad. Playing catch is something that he always wanted to do with his dad and he had never been able to before. It was a touching moment where you get to see a softer more childish side. This of course before the rug is pulled out and all true colors are shown.

In my mind, the glowing celestial orb is symbolic of who is is, but also his relationship with his father, Ego as well as his “daddy” Yondu. So, I thought I would try my hand at creating a glowing celestial orb. Of course, mine isn’t created with cosmic power; more power of shopping at my local craft store and a little time.

I picked up some wicker balls in the floral department that happened to be on sticks, some glitter blast paint (Twilight Sparkle) and some mini LED lights and got to crafting.

I started spraying the orb with the glitter blast spray paint and quickly realized since it was on a stick, it would be easier to spray standing it up.

And since the ground was soft, it was really easy to place in the ground to finish paining and allow it to dry.

Once dry, I removed the orb from the stick. I carefully pulled apart a section of the orb and shoved in some of the mini LED lights into it. Then I pulled those spaces back together so that the lights wouldn’t come out without serious effort.

I was left with a glowing, sparkling cosmic looking celestial orb just as I had imagined. Perfect for playing catch with your dad, sibling, or anybody else. Or using it as a prop or accessory to your Halloween costume (Star-Lord and Ego costume paring anybody?)

Even during the light of day, you can see the celestial orb glowing as you throw it.
