It started out so innocently
Ten years ago (plus or minus a couple days) we went to Traverse City for the Fourth of July to visit family. (It was the last time I would see our guardian angel and just a few weeks before that crash!) We went to a brewery there and it made an impression on Mr. Serious, so we had to go back with the girls.
(Things have definitely changed in those ten years.)
This trip was all about pushing past nap times and bed times (heck, it doesn’t even get dark until after 10pm) and all other things normal, so after lunch we went for a walk. Lake Michigan is just on the other side of the street (more or less) and the girls have been begging to go to a beach (which is about 6 hours from our house on a good day).
Lake Michigan is pretty much like the beach. However, Traverse City is on the bay, so they didn’t get the giant waves. But, the beach? They got it.
This time, I didn’t bring swimsuits (I packed them, just not for the day trip…it was pretty cold). I should have known better. These girls love the water!

They look all cute and innocent, but that didn’t last very long.
Next thing I knew, their jackets were off and they were playing in the sand in their soaking wet clothes. I still don’t even know how they got so wet so fast!
Yep, started out innocent, but ended up soaked!

Ms. Thing actually took her pants off and was on the beach in her “drawers!” Because us? Yeah, we’re classy like that!
(They may or may not have driven home in the backseat of my aunt’s truck with just towels on…)
I’m linking up here. Go and visit their Wordful and Wordless Wednesdays.

LOL Love that she got down to her drawers. I think I remember being that spontaneous:)
Yeah..I remember that time, too. It was before kids, for sure:)
what a great story. It was cold up there, I couldn’t imagine geting in the water but kids will do anything in th ename of fun and adventure.
Fun! I have learned this lesson as well. Assuming pulled-up pants are good enough? Not so much. Love the pics!
Yeah, not sure why I didn’t think to just pack the extra clothes, swimsuits and life jackets. Next time, I’ll know!
SO CUTE! At least they kept some of their clothes on!!! How adorable!
Yeah, that’s true. But, unfortunately, they didn’t have a change of clothes. Living and learning!
this is what summer road trips are all about right friend?
making forever memories!!
lmao too cute and yup my kids would totally do the same thing!
Looking back, how did I not see this coming? Silly mommy.
Love the spontaneity.
We only pass this way once, you know?!
So very true!
