Furniture with little ones?
Did you modify your living room when your little ones came around? One thing we did as soon as our first was crawling was push our coffee table against a wall instead of right in the middle of the room. It was just a necessity. The corners were pointy and it was just the right height for her to smack her head.
Once we moved to our new house, we purchased a fire place cover, too. Man, has that been a lifesaver.
In our kids’ rooms, we’ve put a lot of furniture in the closet. And, then we put a lock on the closet door. One is a climber and the other was so curious that we were afraid of the consequences. We’ve also bolted some of the other furniture to the walls in their rooms.
What furniture changes did you make when your kiddos came around? Did you ditch that glass top dining room table? Or maybe lose your fancy lamps that your great grandparents passed down to you?
I will received a gift certificate from CSN stores to review a product at a later date. Head over to Krizzy Designs (my design site) for a $55 CSN stores giveaway!

I obviously haven’t had to do anything.. yet! Of course, though, I have exactly what we will be doing in my head. We have a split level home so we have two sets of stairs to worry about.. eek! I think we will just be living in the basement.
We had a glass coffee table. Sold it on craigslist and now we have a leather ottoman (that doubles as a toy bin) in its place!
We did move things around, definitely. We had a low coffee table that was wonderful for them to use when they were learning to stand and then walk, but like yours the corners were so sharp it was a bit of a hazard as well.
Looking forward to you CSN product review! I love that place!
We’ve done all of the above. To kill two birds with one stone, we moved the coffee table in front of the fireplace at our old house. here at our new house, we don’t use our coffee table…it’s a toy table in the play room.
Thanks for the CSN giveaway! I just entered!
We were so young and broke when we first started our family that our experience is opposite. We had nothing and just waited until it was safe to buy it.
We didn’t change anything. Horrible parents…..
Honestly. Our baby proofing was so minimal that you might as well say it was nonexistent. We took the fireplace screen off the mantel and removed the fire poker set. We locked up the cleaning supplies. And we got outlet covers.
No baby gates. The one room where we’d want one has a wide door opening (former sliding glass door) and that would cost us $200 to gate. So we just didn’t gate it up. We have to watch her like a hawk!!!
Not sure what we’ll do come Christmas time or when there are TWO toddlers running around driving mommy crazy.
