Keeping my “Gut” Healthy

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

I always knew that probiotics were important. My mom stressed making sure I ate yogurt when I took antibiotics or when I give it to the girls. It’s important because antibiotics (along with other things like hormones) can disrupt the good bacteria, or flora, in your “gut.” That disruption leads to a lot of, um, uncomfortable things. I’ve also read that your gut is the gateway to your immune system, so a happy gut=healthy mom!

So, I take them. But, the thing is, I got some that were generics and I couldn’t swallow them. Like every time, I chocked and gagged and thought I was going to need the Heimlich maneuver. Which meant I wasn’t so good at taking them. I was then introduced to Provella, which is specifically designed for women to promote digestive, feminine, and immune health.* And, I could actually swallow the pills, which was good.

I learned something new. Apparently, that flora doesn’t do so well with all of that stomach acid and it has been estimated that as few as 20%-40% of certain probiotic bacteria survive passage through the gut. However, Provella is formulated using a patented controlled-release technology that helps protect probiotics from harsh stomach acid and is designed to ensure that live organisms reach the intestines, where they can do their thing. Science is awesome, folks.

Check out the flora blended just for us ladies.

Provella

I’ve been taking it for about three weeks now. I can’t say I have noticed any marketable differences, but two of my three daughters have had a cold, and I didn’t get it (knocking on wood, just in case), so maybe it is helping me out after all!

If you’d like to try it, you can purchase at a number of retailers, including DrugStore.com. You can also print a $6 off Provella coupon.

I’m not a doctor. I don’t play one on TV. Always check with your doctor before you start taking anything.
