The great turtle rescue | Mommy and Me Monday 320th ed
The other day, the girls were playing outside with the neighbors, and I noticed another neighbor stopped her car and got out in the middle of the street. My heart immediately was in my throat as I worried something had happened with one of the kids.
It turned out there was a turtle in the middle of the road in our neighborhood. It was pretty strange. Poor little guy (or girl) was quite terrified, covered in pollen and decided as he was re-homed on the neighbors lawn that he liked the safety of his shell.
But, that turtle was very awake with its little head popped in there…just staring at us.
The kids decided that the lawn was no place for a turtle, so they grabbed a box and decided to walk it down to the creek. (See how sneaky I am…that’s my shadow I’m counting for this week!)
They were very concerned about the turtle breathing, so we walked very carefully with the lid open. Poor turtle probably was just as confused as I was.
Once we got to the creek bed, and nearly falling down the very intense slope with very soft ground, the girls quickly gave the turtle a new home.
While he didn’t seem too pleased at the time, we thought it was a good fit. And, when we went back to check the next day, he wasn’t there.
So, we call our great turtle rescue a huge success.
And, for the sake of making sure there’s a picture with me and the girls in it, I will include this family us-ie in the car on the way to church. Don’t worry. We were parked in the driveway. Family picture for the win!
What were you up to this week?
Since the button code stopped working many moons ago, I took it out. But, if you are adding your link to my link list, please, as a courtesy, add a link back to my site so people can explain and link up themselves if they’d like. After all, that’s the point of the link up!
It’s time again for Mommy and Me Monday. Pop out from behind that camera and capture yourself in action with your kids. Check out the inaugural Mommy and Me Monday for more information. Yay! I used to save turtles from the road often when I was a kid (we lived near a pond!). One of the most important things to remember when moving a turtle is to move it in the direction that it’s headed. Many rescuers will take it “back” to the curb it came from, but turtles often follow paths and will return to the direction they were headed.
