An Open Mother’s Day Letter to my Wife (and Mother of Our Kiddos)

{Thank you to Mr. Serious for sending me this note with full permission to share for Mother’s Day. I read it on a bus at Disney World. My eyes were quite leaky after reading it. Happy Mother’s Day to you all!}

You were meant to be a mom. You’ve got “it,” whatever the “it” is that lives deep down in your soul that makes the tremendous mom qualities you’ve got. It’s like God placed “it” in you, and when our first child came, “it” was activated. Like a time-release pill or something hidden inside a vault somehow magically opened when you peed on a home pregnancy test (that’s a weird vault security system…).

It has been great to be with you on this journey. Seeing you transform into everything to these kids; their food, their security, their source of love – both as an object of your love and you as the object of theirs – has been incredible. God has blessed us tremendously through these children and in turn you have multiplied His blessing by being a representation of His love and protection for to these kiddos. You are different now, than when we first said, “I do,” and in every way that different is so good and so right and so meant to be. Destiny fulfilled.

Of course, I loved you before the kiddos came and I love you even more now. Although more is not really the right word, it’s more that you and the kids have changed me into a person that is capable of a better love. A love that is more selfless. A love that is capable of love in action and not just words and affection.

Mother's Day x 4

{Baby #3: 02.15.12}

It is kind of like that line from the movie As Good as It Gets, when Jack Nicolson says to Helen Hunt, “You make me want to be a better man.” But it’s for me it’s more, “You make me want to be a better man, period.”

Mother's Day | Baby Girl #4

{Baby #4: 12.29.13 after our hospital transfer}

It’s through the way you are a mom to the kids and the way motherhood has changed you, for the better, the best. So, Happy Mother’s Day to you and I thank God that He has placed you in my life.

Love,

Your Husband
