Football in our house

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

I had a realization last night. I already knew that I really don’t like to watch televised sports, and hubby loves it, but I didn’t realize how differently we watch.

Me: Typically surfing the net, reading blogs, etc.
Hubby: Totally entrenched in the game, and talking to the tv as if I’m listening. Then, getting upset if I don’t know what he’s talking about or missed a play.
Me: “Oh, look, he just mouthed the “f” word.
Hubby: “Did you see that play? The quarterback just totally got sacked by the blah, blah, blah, and there was a touch back, and then they tackled the so and so and now there is a penalty.
Me: “Yes, of course…what?”
Hubby: “Touchdown…fumble…that should have been a penalty. I hope they review that play.”
Me: “If a guy wears his hair like that (dreads or just long hair hanging out) he deserves to have his hair pulled.”
Hubby: “Really, did you see that play? Seriously, it was huge…I hope they show it again.”
Me: “That guy totally just grabbed himself and gave himself a tug and rearranging.”

And, that’s when I realized that football is totally different for us.

How much longer is the season? And, when does Gray’s Anatomy and Private Practice start back up?

Yep, I’m not a football girl!!!

  1. Yeah I was busy crocheting while Richard was watching the game Saturday night.

I am not a football girl either. But I do like to watch when there is some huge dispute and the coach is throwing his hat.

  2. LOL LOL LOL CAN YOU hear me laughing…totally laughing! I am not a real sports fan either. LOL LOL LOL

  3. I’m just going to pretend I didnt read this post, except for the Greys and Private Practice line!! That way I wont judge you! lol
    I’m a huge football fan!!
    hehe

  4. We don’t watch much football in our house. Thank goodness. I feel for you. However, when college basketball season comes around (Carolina basketball to be exact) our whole world has to revolve around the Tarheel schedule. Fun times.

  5. HA! You sound like my husband, and your husband sounds like me! I'm the MUCH bigger fan. I bleed scarlet & gray, so I'm really suffering right now after watching my Buckeyes not show up this past Saturday. OUCH 🙁

  6. ha ha ha – football season just STARTED! My hubbie is sent to the basement so he can yell and scream at the TV all he wants – he sort of scraes the girls with his shouting at football!!

  7. I loathe football…but yesterday I actually laughed while watching my hubby’s team screw up and the announcers were BAGGIN’ on them so bad. That was funny! 😉

  8. I am right there with ya hon! I love Grey’s!! I can tolerate football, but am usually ready for it to be over 🙂

  9. Last night during the Browns game.

Mrs. Newlywed: Wow, I really like his hair. OMG he looks hurt! Why doesn’t that count as a penalty?

Mr. Newlywed: OMG that little bi*** just fell like a branch! When I played football in college…yada yada yada.

This is where I tune out.

  10. It is funny the things that you noticed…that is the interesting stuff. I wonder if they ever watch themselves and think that they look like a big idiot?

I don’t like to watch it on TV, I would rather be there. This year I have it easy though because of my husband’s work schedule I only have to deal with it on the weekends. No Monday Night Football for us this year! Yippee!

I’m pretending you didn’t say that. Hubby and I love the Irish game so much Saturday, we watched it again yesterday.

  12. Oh man when sport is on generally we are in seperate rooms. Unless it involves hot men in small items of clothing then I’m all for it!!

  13. Cute post Krystyn!
I would seriously rather watch paint dry on the walls.
I might even go so far as to say I would rather paint than watch football.
    Nah…lets not go that far!
I am with you sista…let the fall line up begin.

Now when basketball season rolls around…I have another addiction.
    College hoops. Can’t wait!

  14. AMEN! And its just the start of the season. Thankfully fall TV starts soon!

  15. AS you know my John is a total BYU football fan. We changed our tv from Dish to Direct tv just so he can see all of the games….not once but twice or more. Last Sat. after the big BYU win he invited some friends who had missed it over and he watched it again…

…then he sits at the computer and reads every write up about the game..

I am a BYU fan…. but I’m glad that I have my own computer and tv.

I like blogging during the game and just looking up now and again.

Good luck…I think we have until Jan when all the bowl games are over.

  16. Amen! I’ll sit down to “watch” football with hubby too, only I’ll have my laptop in tow and be in bloggy heaven. I’ll look if someone touches down, or something else…but otherwise – just tell me the score.

And really – when do all the good shows start??

  17. Oh yes, I also hate football. So not a fan. Waiting for Grey’s to come back, too! Yay!!

  18. Sorry, I’m a football lover. I get sad when it ends because it is my favorite sport to watch on TV.
However, I can relate to not liking it. I just imagine how much I don’t like my husbands obsession with Battlestar Gallactica other such shows. I can hardly stand to be in the same room when he is watching them.

  19. Less than two weeks until Greys!!!

And I am with you on football. I love going to the games, but watching at home I get bored real fast.

  20. i am a lucky one – hubby could care less about football. we both are good with our laptops. although of course he looks at nerdy stuff 🙂

  21. I’m SO happy that my husband isn’t really a football guy either.

    or golf

    or baseball

    Don’t hate me!

  22. Heee heeeee!!

Guess what is happening right now in our house??

Yup, me with the laptop blogging, and Chet is watching Monday night football. 🙂

    Preach it girl!!

  23. What is wrong with you? I’m totally watching football with your hubs 😉

  24. this is SOOO the exact conversation I have had with my H this week.

    hilarious…

    football season, I mean…

  25. yep… that’s how it goes here too.

unless it’s at a game one of them are playing in… and then the others spend the first quarter trying to explain what a half back is… they eventually give up and I can just “enjoy watching the game”… instead of trying to “understand the game”… there is a difference – they just don’t seem to understand that yet.

  26. WOW! Football in your house is identical to football in my house. I usually give up after about 30 minutes and go watch tv in another room. 🙂

  27. That’s EXACTLY how I watch it…but then occasionally I’ll get interested in a play (usually after it happened) so my hubby will have to rewind it for me. BUt I ALWAYS talk about how tight their pants are, why are they allowed to keep their hair that long, do they still get paid after an injury, etc, etc…LOL

  28. The Gerster Family says:

Definitely! My hubby and I watch ssports this way, too. My fave is when he yells at me in desperation while I’m downstairs (getting my one millionth “I’m way bored” snack). I go barreling up the stairs only to hear “you’ve got to see this re-play! Um. Really? I care?

  29. jOni lAnE says:

Amen sister. That is so my hubby to a T. He is involved in 3 Fantasy Football leagues, and every game is like the Superbowl to him. Seriously. Glad I am not alone. *wink*
    Smiles,
    J

  30. here here! I’m not either! I am exactly the same way!! hahaha

  31. oooh, and those two shows are starting up again really soon, arent’ they???? sooooooo can’t wait!

and I’ve come to appreciate a certain amount of football. For me, it was “get a bit into it” or “go completely insane”, so I opted to try a little harder and at least get into my hubby’s favorite team (the rest of it I can take it or leave it)

  32. Wow, look at all those comments, you’ve got ’em all stirred up! Lucky for me my hubby isn’t too much into televised sports. Once in awhile maybe basketball, but that’s rare. Now golf on the other hand….we both like to watch that.

  33. LOL This cold be a conversation in our house. Me with my lappy and my hubby with his remote.

  34. MamaGeek @ Works For Us says:

Damn that sounds vaguely familiar. I especially like when i ask a question and get a nonchalant nod back.

    Oh yeah, niiiiice.

  35. This is hilarious! I like to watch football, but I notice the same things you do and not so much the game. My hubby gets irritated with me for this too 🙂

  36. My husband and I are the same way! Only, he watches soccer (he’s Brasilian- it’s their religion). He really really wants me to care, but I just can’t. But I don’t mind commenting on all the silly side stuff I see!

  37. Hippie Family... says:

TOMORROW!!! STARTS TOMORROW!!! I am so excited!! even if I do watch it on the small tv upstairs.. I get to do what I want while watching becuase it seems to be the devil in our house! I can’t wait!!
