Funny things from yester-year
While sitting at a traffic light the other day, I remembered a silly thought I once had:
I thought that there was a little (and I do mean little) man living inside of the traffic light making the colors change.
Which lead me to another funny memory:
Living in Texas, you are always warned about tornadoes. And, you are told to listen for a train so you know if there is a tornado coming.
Know what I was always listening for?
A train whistle. You know…”choo choo!”
Yeah, I had a while imagination.
What’s something funny you thought in your childhood that you now know to be untrue.
Haha… hilarious! I have a memory of me thinking little people changed traffic lights, too! Some adult must have told us that, I think…
I will have to think about this one . . I can't think of anything at the top of my head! but yours are great 🙂
I use to think the same thing!
I used to think that tv was happening as I watched it. I remember very clearly being 7 years old and watching Golden Girls with my mom. After the show was over she started flipping through channels and there was Betty White on a game show. I asked my mom how she got to the other show so fast and that was the first time I realized that tv was pre-recorded!
haha…those are great – I always thought that those rumble strips that they sometimes have on highways (before stop sign) were so that BLIND people would know when to stop! haha…let's hope that we don't have any blind people driving around on the highways!
I firmly believed my dolls were alive and just pretending to be asleep when i played with them. I drove myself nuts taking care of them b/c I worried one day they would talk back and tell me they didn't like the clothes they were wearing or the food I made them.
Now that I have 3 kids, I think my dolls have come to life. And boy was I right about the talking.
I used to think the same thing about stop lights!
I also thought I had "slots" in my stomach where my food went! I would tell my mom that I still had room in my macaroni "slot" but not in my green been "slot" 🙂
I also thought that by the time we had kids, we would live like the Jetsons..my car would become a briefcase, ect!
Okay so, I wasn't a little kid when this happened, but I feel just as dumb about it.
You know that annual golf championship in Las Colinas, the Byron Nelson. Well, I know nothing and I do mean NOTHING about golf, and I thought it was held in honor of our company CFO, who shared the same name.
When I made some lame comment about it to my boss (of course, trying to sound all cool and whatnot), he nearly died laughing at me.
I've never been so mortified in my life.
Ha! Ha! That is great! I used to think that my dolls would play when I left the room. There was a time when me and one of my friends (who belived this also) went to peak into the bedroom window from outside to try and catch the dolls playing.
I remember thinking the same thing.
I also remember thinking that money grew on trees.
Now why couldn't that one be true?
You mean we're not supposed to listen for the whistle? Crap.
Sounds like a whole generation of little children were told that a little man lived in the stoplights because I definitely thought the same thing! 🙂
My brother and I thought that bridges were called "duck bridges" because my parents would say "Duck, bridge" when we were driving down the road…..and we would duck!!
Funny stuff!!
Cheney asked me the other day if the people in the TV could see him laying in bed. It took him a while to realize that newsmen just appeared to be looking right at him!
I used to think there were little men in traffic lights, too!!!
How hilarious! 🙂
Haha!! Hilarious! It's too funny how little minds work and work when we're young.
I used to think that if someone wore glasses they were blind without them. I think I got that from Scooby Doo when what's her name couldn't see without them…ha!
Hahaha!!! That is just too funny. 🙂
little men??
honey that is awesome!!
I just love this post!!! I also thought that there was someone controlling the traffic lights!! And if my brain was working better I'm sure I'd have something funny to share. I will think about it – and come back when I remember! lol 🙂
i remember thinking the mailman was an honor to be like the president! some reason my mom must have liked him a lot ! lol
Too funny! I used to think that there was an anteater in our backyard who used to eat all our walnuts of our walnut tree. I swore I had seen him! haha! The imaginations of kids!
That's pretty hilarious! I hope you were never left alone during a tornado warning.
Alex once told that he thought his first name was Alex and his middle name was Xander.
I thought the weather man was saying "windshield" instead of wind chill.
How funny. I have a silly one. When I was little I thought that each person had 3 bellies, one for meat, veggies and desserts! (see I was always obsessed with food), and I use to always say I had room in my dessert belly!! ha ha!
When my mom was pregnant with my sister, I asked her how the baby got food.
She answered me "Well, the baby has a little kitchen in there."
I can still describe for you IN DETAIL what I envisioned my sister's in utero kitchen to look like. Weird, I know.
Umm…when I read that I thought, "Trains run all the time – not just during tornadoes."
I used to think a backpack was called a "bagapack." My older sister thought that was Heeee-larious.
