Houston says "Don’t leave again!"

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

Our trip was going so well. We left late Thursday, drove about 5 hours, stopped at a hotel, then got on the road early Friday morning.

The girls were pretty cooperative, despite about 6 hours of sleep the previous night.

It was great until the navigation system said we had about one hour remaining.

And, then it went terrible.  Horrible, no good, very bad day.

It started pouring down rain and we hit traffic.  Parking lot traffic.

And, I updated my facebook, and somebody responded “You know Wayside Road is closed at I-10, right?”

Um, no.  No we didn’t.

And, we sat.

And, we sat.

And, we sat.

For about 3 HOURS!  We moved probably less than a mile.

This was the view from our van for THREE HOURS!!!!

You don’t want to see the view of the back seat.

Hurricane Alex, you sucked.  Big time!

And, Houston traffic?

We don’t miss you one bit!

  1. Everyone should have gotten out of their cars and started dancing in the rain for entertainment. But yeah, I’m sure it did suck. From what I’ve realized from my own kids, they’re usually OK as long as a car is moving. If it’s stopped, though, forget it.

  2. Ugh, Houston traffic just stinks. We always purposely fly into Hobby instead of International because of it, less traffic to deal with!

On the other side of it, scoop up some of that rain water and send it PA direction. We need the rain badly. LOL

  3. ahh that is like my worst nightmare. The longest I have been stuck was an hour.. but it was by myself and I left my cell phone at home! My husband was worried sick and I was MAD – just from the screaming from the back seat 😛

  4. Oh man…..that seriously bites. And yes, Alex sucks as well.

  5. Oh girl, when I heard you got stuck in all of that, my first thought was..”Great..now she wont ever want to come back to Houston!” lol
So sorry you had to go through it 🙁
Glad you are here now though!!

  6. Oh my gosh! That sucks! I’m sorry… 🙁
That happened to us once when we were in Toronto… I was freaking out as much as the kids because I was feeling so bad for them!

  7. Oh girl. I am SOOOO sorry. I can only imagine how miserable that was.

Funny, I have bad traffic memories of Houston when I was a child. We got caught in a HAIL storm there on a trip to the amusement park. Scary and awful.

    Glad you are home safe!

Oh dear! How sad is that! I can’t imagine being in the car with 2 little ones sitting in traffic…hardly moving for 3hours. That must have not been fun!

I am sending love. Hugs, Lura

  9. That stinks b/c traffic really has been good since they fixed I-10. You just had to come in the day the hurricane was close. Ugh! Sorry I couldn’t help more on the phone 🙁

  12. That is not good. Hope things got better. 🙂

  13. I used to live in Houston….that city shuts down in the rain. You poor thing!

  14. Oh my word, I would have gone crazy. CRAZY. I cannot stand traffic and being stuck for 3 hours would have put me over the edge!

  15. Oh NO!………..I’d take our 20 hour drive over that anyday!……….we had a brief storm to drive through towards the end (details are on my blog)….but it was rather short……
