Oh Christmas Tree so Snowy White | Mommy and Me Monday | 408th ed

Good old Hot-lanta. I mean Cold-lanta. It seems that the weather forecasting just doesn’t work for us. They forecasted less than an inch of snow. And no accumulation. The snow started around 7:30 am on Friday for us and by 5pm it was a wintry wonderland. The snow continued until Saturday morning.

Oh, and many people in our area (last I saw was 30,000) were without power. Ours was out for right at 24 hours with a brief interlude in the middle of the night where it came back on. Which was amazing because it was long enough to heat the house up some and keep the fridge cold. By the time it came on and stayed on, the house was about 62 degrees.

In the midst of all of it, my sister was flying in from Texas for a little over 24 hours and ended up driving through the snow. The girls were happy to see her and we got creative with the passing of time without electricity. (Pro tip: For the night, wine was a must!)

Playing with aunt emily

Mid-Saturday, we were able to drive around the city scouting locations, but there was still a good bit of slush and snow where it didn’t get hot enough.

Once Aunt Emily was headed back to the airport, we got our Christmas tree out and started decorating it. Mid-tree decorating and right before dinner, we got our power back! I think you could hear the collective sounds of celebration around the neighborhood!

And maybe the kids were excited, too!

Silly Christmas tree

The took a nice one, too, but I think this captures the mood so much better! Yay for hot food!

But, I did manage to get one good one with my E after church (or course I had already changed out of my super cute dress).

Mommy and Me Monday by the tree

I’m hoping for a much calmer week here, but the reality is, it’s only going to be crazier.

  1. I was baffled by the snow in Atlanta, too! Mother Nature is a crazy mistress! A few years ago, we had a power outage here in Kentucky from a MAJOR ice storm. We were without power for an entire week! My mother was a rockstar. We had a gas stove and tons of food that was going bad and needed to be cooked immediately, so we ate like KINGS! Also had some cabin fever fights, but what sane person can stay cooped up for that long and not freak out?
Thanks for sharing your story! Glad I’m not the only one improvising without electricity!
