My Bed Bugs | Mommy and Me Monday | 833rd ed

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

Things feel extra heavy these days. It’s hard to keep on doing the normal things when it feels like all the things are going so so so so poorly.

Saturday morning, E and I planned to volunteer at a local organization that helps people experiencing homelessness and in shelters. The provide clothes, birthday gifts, toiletries and furniture for people coming out of homelessness and more.

So, we both got our workouts in early so we could head over and help out.

Once there we were tasked with first organizing and labeling a blanket shelf to make it easier for other volunteers to find and grab things. Then, we were in the baby room to organize and clean it up.

It’s hard to really see in the first picture, but you could barely walk into the room. Things were on the floor, thrown in piles and disorganized. There were parts of pack n plays that the main part of wasn’t there.

The volunteers are so busy, it wasn’t a priority to get it reorganized. So E and I spent about 2 hours organizing and cleaning the closet.

Then I was asked to go pick up lunch for the volunteers and I reconnected with the rest of the world and learned of the murder of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. The feelings of inability to do anything were met a little bit with the action I was taking to help the people in my community, but I was still angry and horrified with what is happening in Minnesota and the rest of the world.

I returned back with lunch and everybody gathered to grab a bite and talk about what was happening. We were all disgusted and want better for our country.

Then, we finished up lunch and got back to work. E and I had a little more to do in our room and then we spent another couple hours wrapping gifts for the birthday program for children in shelters.

After wrapping up the wrapping, we headed home where I spent some time talking to Mr. Serious about the video I watched as well as N. We had some time together, had dinner and then I went to lay in bed on a heating pad (my back was yelling at me).

These girls slowly piled in and I was (and still am, to be clear) grateful for my bed bugs. I’m grateful that they know right from wrong and they know injustice when they see it.

I have and will continue making calls using the 5 calls app and urge you to do the same. Tell your Congresspeople and Senators you do not stand for what is happening (trying to not use keywords here for frozen water). Because “We the People” means ALL the people! And we must protect our rights granted to us by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. If we don’t defend them, then what’s the point of having them.

What did you do this week?
