Pie! {pie and $50 Williams-Sonoma Gift Card giveaway}

If you asked me what my favorite baked dessert would be, I’d go with pie (with cheesecake a close second!). But, as much as I like pie, there are few that I will make homemade…even then I use a premade crust. I can honestly say I’ve never attempted a homemade crust or a homemade fruit pie (except pumpkin. Does that count)?

This Thanksgiving, we did a couple homemade and a couple from the store. We tried the Mrs. Smith’s Signature Deep Dish pies; the Dutch Apple Pie with Caramel Sauce and the Cherry Pie with Butter Fudge Sauce (I was bummed, I couldn’t find the Peach Pie with Cream Cheese Icing nor the Pumpkin Pie with Cream Cheese Icing. I guess they were popular this holiday season).

It was nice to be able to pull them out of the freezer once dinner was prepared and smell them cooking while we ate and then after (they take about 50-70 minutes to cook). We let them cool (for about 30 minutes), cut into them and each had a small sample of each of the FOUR pies.

While they came with sauces, we decided to keep them at their basics and not include them on our pies. We are a simple pie family!

Cherry Pie
It was a toss up for me between the apple and cherry, but I think I have to go with the apple as my favorite. I like the crumbly and sugary topping that came with it. The cherry was a hit with the 4 year old (however, she did just eat the cherries out).

  33. How have I gone my entire life without thinking of putting icing on a pie?! I’m going to track down peach with icing…I have to try this. I would buy $50 worth of peppermint bark with the Williams Sonoma gift card. It’s one of my favorite things about the holiday season.
