Socially-Conscious Holiday Gifting With Heart of Haiti
While we don’t have our tree up yet, and haven’t considered Christmas decorations, we have made some Christmas preparations. We are making our budget and thinking of gifts to give our family and friends. When thinking of what to gift people, we like to really try to think of the person and gift them something that will have a special meaning.
I am a member of the Everywhere Society and they provided me with this product for review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
Instead of going and haphazardly picking something out, if I can, I like to give a gift that is socially-conscious. Something that will be nice to receive, but more importantly, is a gift that gives back to a person or community.
Macy’s Heart of Haiti allows me to find a great gift like this metal tray, created using steel oil drums that are hammered and chiseled and sculpted to create unique piece with a money going back to Haitian artists. Not only is it beautiful and purposeful as a tray, but it goes back to a community that was devastated by an earthquake in January 2010. Macy’s went to Haiti shortly after this earthquake and found there was an artist community that wanted to bring their products to market despite the devastation.
They launched the product line at Macy’s online as well as several stores, which to date has employed 400 artists. Those artists and their income benefit over 3000 members of their extended families. Macy’s has paved the way for helping to rebuilding this part of the Haitian economy. When you make a purchase through Heart of Haiti, the money goes back to their community.

How do you participate in socially-conscious holiday giving during the holidays?
I like that you realize the difference between gifts and presents and that it is a helping hand.
This sounds like a wonderful opportunity to give back to those who need it most in Haiti – what a beautiful piece! I’ll have to check out our local Macy’s to see what I can find! Heart of Haiti is doing really good things! Kudos to Macy’s!
Such beautiful items. The tray is so awesome! I have a HUGE hammered heart from Type A that I really love. It’s going on my tree this year.
I love how each piece of Hearts of Haiti jewelry and craft are so beautiful and have such personality.

I think I found the place to shop for our friends gifts.
Love initiatives like this! And what a wonderful opportunity to give back to those who need it most. I’ll have to put Macy’s on our list for holiday shopping and see what I can find.
