I am so excited to tell you about Tassimo’s home brewing system. I have always wanted to try one because of the different hot beverage drink preferences in my house. The Tassimo (by Kraft) allows me to make coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cappuccinos, espressos and lattes, one cup at a time, all in the same machine.
I am not really a coffee drinker, but I love my frilly drinks. On the other hand, Mr. Serious loves his coffee. Dark. With no sugar! So, this was perfect for us.
There are many beverage brand options available, too; Twinings, Maxwell House, Seattle’s Best Coffee, Gevalia Kaffee, Milka and recently Starbucks. Each of these are portioned into the T-disc required for the Tassimo beverage system.
It knows exactly the right temperature and amount of water to add to each drink because it has a microprocessor that reads the bar code printed on each T-disc label.
Serious Tested: I couldn’t wait to try it out. I immediately took it out of the box and set it up. It just required a relatively quick cleaning process and it was good to go.
My first drink was a hot chocolate. First, I did the chocolate T-disc and then I had to do the milk one
which resulted in the yummy frothy layer on top. It tasted delicious. Not too sweet and very milky.
At first I was a little started at the noises it was making, but once I thought about it and realized it was reading a barcode, pulling up the water and heating it quickly, it make complete sense. I now find it fairly quiet. It is much quieter than our coffee grinder (which wakes me up way too early when Mr. Serious would use it).
Mr. Serious then brewed some coffee. He likes his coffee strong and was impressed that it was strong without altering it. However, if you prefer your coffee a little weaker, you can hold down the button and add some more water to the drink. (My French friend also had some coffee and was really impressed stating that American coffee is usually brewed way too weak).
It is also easy to use; just insert the T-cup and push one button and you’ve got your drink. In some cases, it required you to repeat this process with a milk/cream cup; but it’s just as easy and quick. Most of the drinks take less than a minute.
Improvements:
One thing I was disappointed by was the Chai Tea Latte. I really wanted to be excited by it. The tea flavor and the milkiness are perfect. But, it is make with artificial sweetener (sucralose or Splenda). To me, this has a horrible after taste and I sadly couldn’t even finish it. There are many similar reviews out there stating this same fact. I would much rather prefer the calories for a better taste. I contacted the company and asked them about this, and they said they had received many complaints, but the person I spoke with didn’t know if changes were forthcoming.
Pricing:
The Tassimo home beverage system is anywhere from $129.99-$169.99. The T-cups are around $0.50 a piece (usually sold in sets of 8-16 depending on the beverage). While this is cheaper than buying at Starbucks, it still will hit you in the wallet when you buy a box of them.
Overall:
We were very impressed with our Tassimo. The biggest thing I would like to see changed is the use of the artificial sweetener in the Chai Tea Lattes. The flavor of the coffees, expressos, regular lattes and hot chocolate were spot on and I couldn’t have asked for anything more. I love that Mr. Serious can make himself one large cup of coffee in the morning in a minute and it comes out perfect.
Thank you to Tassimo for providing the home brewing system and T-disc samples. My opinions are my honest, and thoughtful views and were not influenced by any source. I was not compensated monetarily for this review.
Krystyn, I love talking about caffeine-related topics, I really really do. But I am here for another reason today. I wanted to let you know that I nominated you for an award. So please check it out when you get a chance…
I almost, almost bought a Tassimo or Keurig for myself with birthday money. But I'm not doing caffeine right now, and I thought I'd wait until I can indulge and be a normal person again. The decaf options for these machines are not great.
Thanks for your review! We got one of these for Christmas and use it every day before work! It is abolutely wonderful! We even got one for my parents. We started a little coffee club and order the Tdiscs online once a month. They're cheaper and have a better variety!
I had a Tassimo for years. It was one of the first models. I prayed for it to break b/c I never liked it. It started spitting out coffee everywhere after awhile. I also didn't like their coffees. So finally after many prayers, it broke and I just bought a Keurig. I LOVE IT! They have better coffee selections and teas, in my opinion.
But the personal brewers are definitely the way to go – esp since Tim and I don't agree on flavors either 🙂
Did you say hot chocolate?!!!
How cool! My hubby recently mentioned getting one of these…
very fun!!
Check you out doing reviews and getting free gadgets. I am a sucker for kitchen gadgets, what can I say they make me happy!!
Ooo. That sounds pretty fabulous! 🙂

And thanks for putting me in your sidebar! I never realized that until now.
Today is a great day for hot drinks! Tassimo away, my friend and happy day off!
