West Side Story at The Fox Theatre | Broadway Across America
I remember reading West Side Story in high school. The modern version of Romeo and Juliet with the Sharks and the Jets “rumbling” it out for the streets, and Maria and Tony falling in love.
Broadway Across America’s performance of the musical was awesome. I’ve never been to a musical before and I was so impressed. The dancing was perfect. Everybody in their place, spot on, moving with such precision and accuracy. And, topping their dancing with singing? I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it is to sing while performing all of those leaps, pirouettes, jumps, turns and more.
More than fifty years ago one musical changed theater forever. Now it’s back, and mesmerizing audiences once again. From the first note to the final breath, West Side Story soars as the greatest love story of all time. Directed by its two-time Tony Award-winning librettist Arthur Laurents, West Side Story remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. The new Broadway cast album of West Side Story recently won the 2010 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album. The Bernstein and Sondheim score is considered to be one of Broadway’s finest and features such classics of the American musical theatre as “Something’s Coming,” “Tonight,” “America,” “I Feel Pretty” and “Somewhere.”
West Side Story is showing in Atlanta through Sunday, January 30th in Atlanta. There are also several other tour dates around the US, so check and see if West Side Story going to be near you.
I received two tickets to attend the show. I was under no obligation to post my thoughts. All opinions are my own. I received no financial compensation. And, we had to pay for parking and a baby sitter!
Like I said on the phone, I am jealous!!!!!!
Yeah, I think you missed Houston, too. But, I think it’s going to Austin still…make a trip out of it!
