What You Need for an at Home Drive-In Movie

Last week, the girls and I had a playdate with our friends where we created an indoor at home drive-in movie viewing. We all had a great time crafting and watching a movie…the girls from the comfort of their laundry baskets.

I shared how we made our BYO(L)B party into a DIY custom car with license plate earlier. It is incredibly easy and it can be fast or you can take a while to get into it. Either way, the kids are quite happy lounging in their baskets (I’m looking into a adult-sized one as we speak!)

So, what do you need to make your at home drive-in movie a success?
The car
As I mentioned, we made our cars from laundry baskets, some foam, paper plates, decorations, and DIY license plates. You could also use a cardboard box.

The accessories
The girls made some fun steering wheels, which they decided to forgo for snacks. But, they did leave their fun Netflix stickers aka “bumper stickers” and wheels and headlights.
The comfort
Pillows and blankets are a must. I like to snuggle up when I’m watching a movie and the kids are no different.
The snacks
I think there was at least one kiddo with a snack in hand at all times. We had some good ones at JaMonkey’s house, like fruit plates, popcorn, cookies, veggie plates and fruit snacks.

The movie
The most important part of the Drive-In Movie is the actual movie! With Netflix, there is a great selection that they can choose from. Since it was the beginning of November, we went with Free Birds. There are many others to choose from on Netflix. Just this month, there is Veggie Tales: It’s a Meaningful Life, Thomas and Friends: The Christmas Engines, and later this month, Ultimate Spiderman: Season 3 and Home to name a few. We can always find something to watch on Netflix for a Drive-In Movie.
What would you include for your drive-in movie requirements? What movie would you watch?

I love this! This is great! Fun idea for rainy days! I would watch Cloudy with a chance of meatballs, because that’s the first movie I watched at a drive in! For snacks, I would do some popcorn, fruit, and cookies!
Jeanna saw this on your blog yesterday and thought it was a great idea. Especially the fact it keeps the kiddos from getting in each others way. No pushing or shoving, everyone has their own space.
I love the laundry basket car idea! If we do this I’d want to have Swedish Fish and we could watch Inside Out-such a cute movie!
This is such a fun idea something I am really gonna have to do.
