This is our girls’ very first American Girl doll and they are really enjoying her. This is the American Girl 2017 Girl of the Year (GOTY) Gabriela McBride! Make sure you check out their video at the bottom!

She has already found a place in our doll RV and has been hugged on and played with by all four girls.

Thankfully, the doll is very durable.

Gabriela McBride became available on January 1, 2017. Gabriela is a true talent who uses her passion for the arts—specifically spoken word poetry—to overcome personal obstacles and create positive change for her community.

Gabriela launches with a beautiful 18-inch doll, plus several performance-inspired outfits, accessories, and toys.

And unlike past Girl of the Year characters, Gabriela will be available throughout 2017 and beyond!

The girls favorite part of Gabriela (which is true of all American Girl dolls) is that they can style her hair! As you can see in the video below, they were so impressed that they could put it up, play with it and practice hair styles.

Gabriela, the 2017 Girl of the Year, is a quiet and creative girl growing up in a family of artists. In her story, Gabriela struggles with stuttering, but uses the power of poetry to find her voice and gain the confidence to make a difference in her community.

The 18” Gabriela doll has curly dark-brown hair and warm brown eyes. Gabriela arrives in a cropped purple sweater and soft turquoise tank top, plus jeggings, underwear, and shoes. Also included are a pink double headband, 10 hairbands, and the Gabriela paperback book by Teresa E. Harris.

And, to connect students with Gabriela’s inspiring message and to bring awareness to spoken word poetry, American Girl is partnering with Scholastic to create and distribute Express Yourself, a program for classrooms that empowers students to use the arts as a tool for self-expression. Available in March 2017, the classroom resources give teachers the tools to encourage students to find their creative voices, just in time for National Poetry Month in April.
