How can you help?-Relief for Haiti

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

I really feel like I have been out of touch with the horrible earthquake that has hurt Haiti.  Houses, buildings, hospitals, jails and lives have been ruined.  Families destroyed.  It is awful.

And, I sit here, at my desk after driving in my car and hugging and kissing my girls in the morning and I wonder: How can I help?   What can I do?

And, then I saw a post by Modern Matriarch pointing to more sites and pictures.  And, she is reaching into her pockets and donating $1 for every comment left on her post.  Today is Delurking Day.  Today is the day you are to leave comments on blogs you don’t usually comment on.  Leave a comment.  Say “hi.”

And, today.  I am doing the same.  I will donate $1 for each person that leaves a comment to the relief fund for Haiti established by the Methodist Church through UMCOR.  100% of the donation goes directly to the relief fund.

Edited to add:  I will add $1 to the donation amount through Friday morning at 6am, after that point, it will be $0.25 for each comment through January 21st, 2010.  (A minimum of $100 from the Serious Family…help make it more).  Please go visit Money Saving Mom to see many, MANY others who are now doing the same.

If you want to help another way, go to RedCross.org to see what you can do or text “Haiti” to 90999 and you will be charged $10 to your cell phone bill from the RedCross and yes, it is legitimate.

Of course, you could offer the same on your blog.  Let me know, and I will be happy to come over and comment.

  1. 1) I'm glad you delurked. Meeting new people and finding new blogs to read makes me happy. So do martini and pectoral muscles, but hey, I'll take what I can get this morning.

    2) Thanks for doing this. Every bit counts.

  2. I don't really lurk, but I'm posting a comment anyway. This is a wonderful thing you're doing.

  3. I think you are very awesome for trying to help. . . I wrote about another organization called Living Waters for the World on my blog today. It goes in to countries (and my father-in-law went there in July), builds water systems and helps provide clean water to countries that have water, but it is contaminated. That is true for Haiti, certainly. My husband and I will be donating to that organization, but there are so many out there, and they need all the help that they can get!

  4. What a wonderful idea, Krystyn! I've been thinking about this all morning because I, like you, feel so helpless. I was watching the news this morning and people are on the streets because they literally have no where to go! And, the worst part is that hospitals are turning people down because they're overloaded! Oh, how I wish there was something even more that we could physically do, like be there, to help these people!

Thank you for all of the information — I'll be doing something as soon as I can figure out WHAT on my blog!

  5. What an awesome thing you are doing! Not that I'm a de-lurker, but of course I will comment! 🙂

It really is terrible how many thousands of people have been affected by the Haiti earthquake, but it's been great that people have pulled together in the past few days. And good for you for donating $1 for every comment! I may have to tell some of my friends to stop by your blog as well.
