Let there be light

I often refer to my house as a cave. We have a porch over our front windows (shown just off the screen) and get very little light from the back of the house. Windows facing north and south makes it so dark that it drives me crazy. We need some additional light!

Our sitting area in need of light

{This is our living room natural light. Blah!}

We used to have a nice table lamp on that table. But, that cute kiddo in the picture, along with two other sisters not shown destroyed it. They knocked it down and it wasn’t repairable. We haven’t replaced it because we know ti will happen again with all of the people in the house.

Our solution that hasn’t been executed? A wall sconce. The wall space is just perfect for it. It would add just the right about of light to make the chair functional for reading or homework checking. Or even just sitting in the living room not in the dark.

Wayfair asked me to show you some of my favorite lighting options, and I just had to pick out some elegant wall sconces.

I’m terrible at picking these types of things out and will just waiver and never make a decision. I think the sconce is the way to go, but I checked out some table lamps, too, especially because there is a PROMO CODE between November 6 and November 10 that will save everybody 15% off all lamps. The code is: WFLAMPS15

I think the sconce is the way to go right now because of all of the little people, but the lamps are very nice and at a good price point!

What lighting option would you add to our living room to help brighten the place up? It can use a lot of help!

  1. My living room is a bit dark too. I would love to replace my overhead fixtures and add some sparkly sconces as well. That promo code will sure come in handy.

  2. I love the gooseneck/swing option. It can be close to the wall, and out of the way, or closeby for reading to little people 🙂 The pull chain one has me oooohing, too!

    I am so glad you posted this. We have been looking for lights for our night stand and I haven’t found anything I like that isn’t terribly expensive. I am going to check them out.

  4. We live in an 1700s farm house I understand your pain. We have no overhead lighting so we have to use lots of lamps. I love some of these styles that you posted ours are so old.

  5. We need a floor lamp. But it would have to go outside of the wall of baby fencing or we’d have a destroyed lamp too!

  6. We live in a really dark house, too. But every room has a ceiling light and that helps so much! If you can’t do ceiling lights, wall sconces seem like a really good option. The ones you picked out are so pretty!

  7. We just put recessed lighting in, in part to increase light and in part to do away with floor lamps, which I agree are risky with little ones in the house!

  8. Never thought about wall sconces… that would be great while littles are around
