Always make time for yourself

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

Admittedly, I don’t always practice what I preach. In fact, I’m more of a “do as I say not as I do” type of person. At least when it comes to taking time for myself. That has to change. With kiddo #4 on the way, it’s really not healthy for mom to not have some time for herself to relax, reflect or even just sleep in a quiet room!

Make time for yourself.

There are a couple ways that mom can make time for herself. Some cost a little more, and some are almost free, but they all leave us rejuvenated.

– Take a bubble bath in a dark, candle lit room. Maybe enjoy a glass of wine or a beer while in there.

This is usually my go-to mommy time. Well, except now, without the wine. But I often bring a book and just relax.

– Go see a movie. At the theater. By yourself.

Admittedly, I’ve only done this once. But it was quite nice not worrying about anybody else.

– Go to a restaurant with just you and a book. Enjoy a meal with little to no talking and lose yourself in a book.

And, it’s been way too long since I’ve done this. I actually was going to do it a couple weeks ago, and turned out having a surprise lunch with a friend.

– Kick the kids and hubby out of the house and lock yourself in your room. Read a book or take a nap. Or catch up on your favorite Netflix show.

What? You don’t ask your husband to go to the grocery store with all of the kids so you can have an hour nap? Well, you should totally try it.

– Get a manicure/pedicure.

I just had a manicure this weekend. At my house. While it wasn’t an experience at the spa, I was surrounded by adults only so it was nice to talk and chat without little ears around.

– Get a massage.

Yes, yes, and amen. Save your pennies, or ask for a gift card for a present (or enter the giveaway below).

A couple weeks ago, I was treated to a complimentary massage by Massage Heights Brookhaven to enjoy a complimentary massage and I jumped on it. I knew I was carrying a lot of pregnancy tension and a prenatal massage would really help me.

I had to lighten this picture about 10 times for you to actually see the ambiance and the massage table. Heaven. I don’t know how they do it. Perfect light. Perfect temperature. Just the right smell. And the music? Immediate relaxation (next time, I’m going to ask for a CD!)

They offer massages a la carte or monthly massage plans that get you a discount every time you go (whether it’s once a month, or several times within that month). A massage + a discount is totally a win. They also offer massage elevations and face elevations which are basically add-ons to your massage. Unfortunately, due to my “delicate condition” I wasn’t able to try out any of the elevations, but of course they all look amazing. Either way, you will look and feel totally relaxed and like a new person when you leave (crazy hair, in my case, and all!)

Massage Heights Brookhaven or Buckhead locations would like to gift one lucky reader a giftcard for a 90 minute massage + any elevation to test out the spa!

  1. My favorite way to relax is to send Red into the living room with Daddy and lock myself in with hot tea , PJ pants and some trashy TV (Maybe RuPaul’s DragRace so I can watch all the cool creative outfits!). The kind you can switch off in 15 minutes and slip into a nap 🙂

  2. I had a good friend invite me over for a mini manicure girls party 🙂 It was so nice!!

  3. Alone time is so necessary. I’ve never seen a movie by myself though but I do like the idea of spending less and having a quiet movie.
