Cocoon Cam Plus Baby Monitor Review
I can remember lying in bed after having our first little bundle and not being able to sleep. Why did they let me bring this baby home with me? What am I supposed to do now? How will I know she’s breathing? How do I know when she’s hungry. So many questions and doubts. And in those days (I’m aging myself) we didn’t have fancy video monitors. So I’m happy to see so many options for new and seasoned parents like the Cocoon Cam Plus Baby Monitor. Check out why I’ve been liking this monitor and wish I would have had one for my kids when they were babies.
Thank you to Cocoon Cam for sending the monitor for us to review and test out.
About the Cocoon Cam Plus Baby Monitor
The monitor plus app allows for secure HD video and audio and instant alerts in the free app. You can see, hear and talk to your baby right through your phone even when you are away from home. This is an all-in-one baby monitor that also detects breathing without a wearable device for your baby to kick off. You can get visual confirmation that your baby is breathing without any wearables, wires, or mats.
This purple circle indicates where the breathing is being detected and the white graph at the bottom shows the breathing rate.
Cocoon Cam is the only monitor that shows a graph of your baby’s breathing, gives you instant alerts to know when they’re waking or crying, and has secure HD video and two-way audio.
In the box
With your Cocoon Cam Plus Real-time breaking + HD video and audio monitor comes the camera + mount, power cord, ethernet cable, screws and drywall anchors, and setup guide.
What you’ll need
You will need to download the app from the Apple store or Google Play, drill and/ or screwdriver and likely a cord cover to attach the cord securely to the wall and away from baby’s ability to grab it.
Setting Up and Mounting the Cocoon Cam Plus
There is a setup guide in the box, but I downloaded the app and followed the prompts and the camera was up and running in the time it took me to mount it to the wall. Since the camera plus monitors for breathing, the location you mount it over the crib or bed is very important. I followed this diagram from their site and it worked perfectly.
You can see our ceiling here and the camera right over B’s bed. Because she’s in a bed, I had a hard time getting a picture of it and the bed, so the diagram will have to do. (And yes, we have popcorn ceilings…I don’t like them one bit!)
With the app downloaded and the camera set up, it was time to enter my kiddos information (optional of course), but if you had more than one camera set up, I think this would be a must.
Inside the Cocoon Cam Plus App
On the menu, you can see several different options.
View Profile – This is where you can change or update settings for your child (you can see our profile setup above).
Live Stream– This is where you can see what is actually happening live in the room. The camera works both in a fully lit room as well as used infrared to show a black and white picture when it is dark.
Swaddle Stories – This might be one of my favorite features. Mid-day, the app will produce a swaddle story that is approximately 1-2 minutes of stop action shots recapping your child’s sleep the previous night. It’s set to a nice little song. You are able to download and/or share these videos for up to week and then they are gone.
These stories have really shed some light on how B sleeps and how she ends up falling out of bed so often. That girl is a wiggle worm.
Activity Log – Depending on your notification settings, you will also find a quick log of the previous day for your child. You’ll see things like they cried, they fell asleep, they woke up, etc.
Mounting Instructions- will show you how to make sure the monitor is set properly over the bed to detect breathing.
My Invitations / My Account – You can set your username and password here as well as invite a caregiver. This is nice to be able to include another parent or even a grandparent that wants to check in on their grandchild. It’s also a way to include a baby sitter when you are away from home.

Improvements
It’s a super silly one and a bug, but B’s birthday and age won’t save and/or calculate correctly. I think we have just the right combination of birthday + year. I’ve been told this will be fixed with the next update.
I’d love to be able to pan the monitor some, or a different mounting option. I can see the entirety of B’s bed, but the breathing monitoring is always right over her head when she’s sleeping on her pillow (see the picture above). It’s not a deal breaker, but I do like to see her cute face.
Overall
This monitor definitely helps with peace of mind, both in keeping an eye on my kiddo’s breathing as well as me being able to check in on her without having to go in her room and risk her waking up. It’s a monitor I wish was around when my first was born!
