A meet | Mommy and Me Monday | 554th ed
This summer, the girls and I did a lot of cross country training together. Thankfully, we are now able to practice as a team in smaller groups and socially distanced. Things are weird, and since they weren’t on the team in previous years, we don’t really have a comparison. I’m not sure if that’s a positive or negative?
This weekend, the weather cooled off and the sun took a break (okay, really, we got remnants of a hurricane and it was very overcast), but it was such nice weather and perfect for a cross country meet.
I think it was the first time I was glad to wear a mask outside. It was like my own built in little heater.
The girls did great at their meet and both passed other kids in the last stretch of the race. Who was I that I was cheering? (I’m like the worst at watching… I never know what to say, so I’m learning the lingo).
They definitely kicked in into high gear at the finish. It was only a 3000m race and they were expecting 3200m. The oldest finished in 17.05 and N in 19.05 which was just over their race goals this week and still improvements over their time trials.
They’ve had races 1.5 hours away, so we’ve divided and conquered. This race was closer and with nicer weather we all went. E and B weren’t excited at first (admittedly there is typically a lot of standing around) but this time, we walked for a bit and found a really fun playground. So they got to play for an hour while their sisters got ready for their race.
They have a couple more meets this year and then I think it’s off season…which probably means I’ll have to be an honorary member again.
