TEN YEARS OF BLOGGING!

My little computer baby is TEN YEARS OLD! Yes, 10! I started this blog without any idea what I was doing on February 2, 2005. Honestly, sometimes, I’m still not sure what I’m doing.

RAYS is 10

If wordpress was a thing back then, I had no idea. I found blogger while reading blogs when I was in graduate school. I think I was starting to realize that graduate school and a profession in chemistry wasn’t for me. So, I logged into blogger, set up an account and came up with some names I liked.

I wanted “are you serious?” but it was taken, and then recalled saying “Really, Are You Serious?” when the hubby asked me to be his wife. Then, my blog baby was born. I lucked out that nobody ever scooped up the domain and several years later I purchased it. (Never, ever thinking I would have to say the name out loud. I get some super funny looks when I answer with the name when people ask. I try to say it in the nicest way!)

Them: “What’s your blog name?”

Me: “Really, Are You Serious?”

Them: “Really, what is it?”

Me: “My blog’s name is ‘Really, Are You Serious?’”

Them: :|* Grrr.

I had to hardcode any link I placed on my site. There were no magic buttons that did the coding for me. It was certainly quite the learning experience.

Really, Are You Serious is TEN

It’s certainly been an amazing journey and without loyal friends, family and readers I would have given up years ago. (I did even take a break when I had my oldest daughter, but came back after the second and haven’t stopped…I should probably start a therapy fund for the girls now!)

Blogging helped me decide that I didn’t want to be a teacher anymore, either. I found the courage, turned in my letter of resignation and have been blogging and designing from home ever since!

Mommy and Me Monday is the little movement I started almost 5 years ago. It’s lost some steam, but I’m hoping to reinvigorate it somehow. Moms need to be in pictures with their kids. Forward facing cell phone cameras make it so much easier, but we need to keep it up!

I haven’t always had access to stats, but I thought it would be fun to look up the top ten all time most visited posts in the past 10-ish years!

1. 7 Things You Should Never Say To a Mom of a Redhead

People love their redheads!

2. Easy Homemade Laundry Detergent Powder

People love their laundry hacks and easy and cheap detergent.

3. Free First Day of School Printables and First Day of School Questionnaire

I love seeing pictures of kids with these signs on the first day of school! I love that people use them and like them!

4. Squeezed Detox Review

People love their juice! And they love Squeezed for Detoxing as do we!

5. Easy Make Ahead French Toast Casserole

Easy seems to be a trend around here, but I’ll take it. I like easy, too! And, I love this recipe!

6. Mad Scientist

Love doing little mini-science experiments with the kiddos and they love it, too!

7. Breakfast and Pajamas: A First Birthday Party

Breakfast, PJs and Birthday parties seem to be the winning combination. It was such a fun party and the food was so good, too!

8. Mommy and Me Monday

The whole category comes next. Please participate! It’s fun to see the changes and growth. And, it will be a great gift one day to show the girls all of the pictures!

9. 12 Nontraditional Date Ideas

Most of us need some help with creativity and the dating department. It’s fun to get new ideas and keep the spark alive.

10. Easy to Pack Lunches for Preschoolers and Toddlers

I still come back to this for ideas for my girls. These aren’t tricky or complicated, but yield happy kids with full bellies!

Which brings me to all of you! Yes, it’s my blog birthday, but I want to give you all something. Well, I can’t give everybody something (feel free to grab a printable or two), but I can give one person this awesome prize pack! A Google Nexus 7 Tablet, A case, $25 to Google Play, a cute Minnie and Mickey Mouse wristlet and a copy of Best of Me on BluRay/DVD! Because you all are awesome!

And, because it’s almost Valentine’s Day, a little movie

NewImage

Based on the #1 New York Times Best Seller from celebrated author Nicholas Sparks comes this tender, romantic drama about the timeless power of love. When former high school sweethearts Dawson and Amanda (James Marsden and Michelle Monaghan) meet at a loved one’s funeral 20 years after tragedy separated them, their love is reignited. As they recall and relive the past, they come to a deeper understanding about the choices they’ve made. Also starring Luke Bracey and Liana Liberato, and featuring beautiful scenery along with music by Lady Antebellum, The Best of Me is a powerfully romantic story of love, hope and second chances.

For the Home Entertainment release, the “Tears of Joy” Edition Blu-ray and DVD will include an all-new storyline and “Storybook” Alternate Ending so Amanda and Dawson finally get that second chance at love.

I like your whole “package” as a blogger; I know it takes money to build your brand over time, and maintain it, but it’s not just about the “flash” of your site. I love how in-depth and well organized your posts really are. Some people throw up some wonky font, a million monetized pop-ups (again, I understand they must do so to attain some residuals), and shoddy posts. The content is beautifully written and well thought out. You’re not some cheesy mommy blogger who just posts to posts and monetize, well. thought. out. and it shows just how much you care about your blog.

  224. I like reviews the best. I think reviews on blogs are much more honest than on a website or big store review.

  225. Trisha McKee says:
